BREAST CANCERS
Around 56,000 women and 370 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK. This means around 1 in 7 women will develop a breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. The vast majority of breast cancers occur by chance, with only 5% of breast cancers caused by an inherited abnormal gene, such as the BRCA gene.
Breast cancer is very treatable in most cases, with around 88% of women expected to survive for 5 or more years following diagnosis. The main treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, endocrine therapy, and targeted therapies including anti-her2 therapy (such as Trastuzmab) and CDK4/6 inhibitors.
